Introduction to Coaching Certificate

Course duration: 10 weeks

Group size: 10 participants

Delivery: online via and coaching via Skype (coaching can be done face to face if coach and client are in the same region)

Certification: 50hr EF Certificate in Coaching Skills

Assessment: Continuous assessment throughout the course. Candidates are assessed on a portfolio which includes


  • A weekly entry in their personal reflective journal (posted online)

  • A reflection on their experience as a client

  • A personal development plan

  • An overview of their experience as a coach (with 2 clients)

  • Feedback from two clients

  • A full personal review



This course is for EF staff who are:

  • in a role which includes responsibility for coaching/mentoring

  • considering taking on a coaching role in the future

At the end of this course, learners will be able to

  • define coaching and be able to explain what it is and what it is not

  • use the Wheel of Life tool to help focus on development areas and balance

  • describe in detail their own personal values and life purpose and facilitate a client in articulating theirs

  • change self-limiting beliefs to empowering beliefs

  • outline their personal tolerations and boundaries and assist others in doing this

  • present themselves as a credible coach and build rapport with clients

  • provide and receive feedback

  • apply the GROW coaching model

  • set goals for themselves and assist others in the goal setting process

  • create action plans to help achieve goals and assist clients in achieving their goals

  • actively listen to their client and ask powerful questions to facilitate development

  • work with resistance to change

  • review progress and make adjustments as required

  • complete a SWOT analysis and create a development plan

During the course, learners will

  • Use coaching tools on themselves and others in order to increase self-awareness and move towards achieveing their goals

  • Be coached by a trained coach and one peer coach

  • Coach one peer and two other clients

  • Conduct a Full Personal Review by seeking feedback from a range of people about their interpersonal skills

Introduction to Coaching Skills really helped me reflect on my management approach and I feel that my team has also benefited from me taking this course. I started to listen with the intention to understand and not to reply and I learned to ask questions encouraging self-discovery and development.
