You should enroll in this course if you enjoy reflecting on or investigating your own teaching or if you are interested in preparing to study the EF Trinity Diploma in TESOL.



You will develop your teaching skills through self-reflection by keeping a reflective journal on your own development in a specific area of your classroom teaching. You will learn to use different techniques which can be used to reflect and to collect data in your lessons.


This course is for teachers:

  • with at least 6 months experience in ESL

  • who hold a TEFL certificate

  • who are willing to spend 2-4 hours (longer for non-native English speakers) a week on this course for 10 weeks


By the end of this course, you will have:

  • reflected on and identified the areas in which you want to continue to develop.

  • kept a teaching journal to log your teaching and reflection.

  • written an reflective practice report following the structure required by the DipTESOL


By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define and explain what reflective practice is and why it is valuable

  • Analyse and critique various strategies to support reflective thinking

  • Identify areas in your teaching that you can improve through experiential practice

  • Justify your development focus with reference to challenges you and your learners face

  • Select and apply appropriate strategies to support your progress and collect data to measure development

  • Maintain a reflective record, evaluate findings and draw conclusions regarding what implications your journal has for your teaching practice and professional development

  • Present your findings in an academic journal format in line with DipTESOL guidelines
